Gir National Park and Wildlife Sanctuary, also known as Sasan Gir is famous for forest and wildlife sanctuary in the Gujarat State of India. It is located 43 km (27 mi) north-east of Somnath, 65 km (40 mi) south-east of Junagadh.
Besides Africa, Gir National Park in Gujarat is the only place in the world where you can spot lions roaming free in the wild. Gir is the only natural habitat of world popular Asiatic Lions.
There are 106 male, 201 female and 213 sub-adult lions in the wilderness of these four districts.
How to reach Gir National Park?
By air:
- The nearest airport to Gir National Park is Keshod, located at a distance of nearly 70 km.
- Diu Airport is also close to the Gir National Park. From here you can hire that are present just outside the airport which will take you to Sasan Gir. Sasan Gir is nearly 110 km airport of Diu and takes approximately 2 hours to cover this distance.
- The other airport is at Rajkot, situated at a distance of almost 160 km.
By train: The railway station in Junagadh receives trains from different cities like Ahmedabad and Rajkot and other major cities. Then, from here it takes approximately one and a half hour to reach Sasan Gir National Park.
By road: The Gir National Park is well-connected to some of the major cities of Gujarat by a good road. Various state bus transport services and private bus services are available to the national park from various parts of the state. Cab and taxi services are also available.

Devalia Safari Park is a fenced Gir Interpretation Zone, where lions can be spotted more easily. There is no jeep available here, only bus safari that takes around 35 minutes. This is cheaper than Gir Safari and costs Rs 190 per person. You can book your tickets online as well as from the local counters there.
