Brief History of the Island

By Chopper:
You can reach by taking a chopper from Port Blair too. Ships leave from the harbours located in Vizag, Chennai and Kolkata thrice or four times in every month. The journey through waterways is cheap and it takes nearly 60- 70 hours to reach Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
By Ship:
To reach here, one has to first go to Wandoor and then take a jetty from there. Taxi costs Rs. 1800 for a private car that will take you to the jetty and return you back to Port Blair.

4.Mahatma Gandhi Marine National Park
Mahatma Gandhi Marine National Park is a national park of India near Wandoor on the Andaman Islands. It is a major national park for preserving the diminishing marine life like coral reefs, flora, fauna and there is an old Japenese temple too. Andaman’s best sports activities like scuba diving, snorkelling, paddle boating, and surfing, is experienced here.
5.Mount Harriet

6.Anthropological Museum

7.Campbell Bay National Park
It is situated on the Great Nicobar Island. One can reach here by either taking a helicopter/ferry boat from Port Blair. The best to visit the museum is from October-March as the climate conditions are pleasant and you can also watch the wildflowers in full bloom.

- Corbyn’s Cove Beach– A serene and unspoiled beach where one can enjoy water sports and relax with the sonorous sound of the Beach. There is no transport to reach this place, Cellular Jail is the shortest route to this destination.
- Barren Island (Volcano Tour) – This trip usually begins from Havelock Island at 5:30 AM in the morning and ends by 4 PM. The total duration is about 10 – 12 Hours. Fishing can also be done during the tour. Breakfast and Lunch are included in the tour. The island can be accessed by the visitors, with the prior permission of the department concerned.

- Monday is a public holiday in Andaman and Nicobar islands, therefore, crosscheck before you visit the place. For certain places, Forest Department gives entry permits.

Interesting Facts about the Andaman Islands:
- The name ‘ANDAMAN’ is taken from the Malay language which means Hanuman.

- Katchal, an Island near Nicobar was the first place on earth to catch the sunrise.
